La Coppola Storta Made in Sicily

After the Veneto, where we were introduced to the Tabarro, we go to Sicily, where we will learn about a very traditional Italian hat, la Coppola, or flat cap.

I wear one often and consider it “elegantly timeless.”

When I was little I would watch my uncle, who every day with the same ritual – one hand placed open on the back, and two fingers on the visor- would gently rest his cap on his head. He wore it perfectly and ever so slightly sideways.

It was an incredible choreography made with only two gestures.

Today, I bring to you a modern version: La Coppola Storta.

La Coppola Storta – and the raw materials.

La Coppola Storta repurposes and recycles fabrics and clothes of all kinds to make their caps. Jeans, jackets, pullovers, fabrics or garments which are either not used anymore, or which have a special meaning to the wearer, can be sent from all over the world to Sicily, to Piana degli Albanesi, where they are “transformed” into real Sicilian caps.

From a link with the past, the Coppola cap takes new life. Isn’t it brilliant?

In this way, the company minimizes it’s textile waste and supports a more conscientious consumption in order to protect the environment.

These caps aren’t just stylish. The “new” Coppola is made by the expert hands of artisan women who, with dedication and commitment, create products of the highest quality.

From the fabric and material choices, to color combinations, linings and borders, the Coppola Storta is extremely original.

It is cut with attention to the smallest details, the stitching and finishes are of the highest quality, and the process of blocking or shaping the hat over a wooden hat block is specially designed so that the hat maintains it’s shape after every use and wash.
